Trimmis WTE plant, combustion line 2 – chute shaft replacement, boiler refurbishment and ID fan installation

Combustion line 2 of the Trimmis WTE plant was comprehensively modernized in October 2023. In addition to the annual grate overhaul, MARTIN AG's scope of work included the replacement of the chute shaft, the replacement of the cladded membrane walls in the combustion chamber and the supply and installation of an additional induced draught fan for the flue gas cleaning unit.
Some of the characteristics of each of the projects are described below:

• Chute shaft: Replacement of the feed hopper, feed chute damper and water jacket; as per the MARTIN system, the water jacket features bolted wear plates. Manufacturing of all components in MARTIN's proprietary manufacturing facility in Portugal (MARTIN Caldeiras). Installation period: 12 days.

• Boiler refurbishment: Replacement of a total of 90 m² of the membrane walls in the combustion chamber on the front and rear walls with cladded panels. Manufacturing of the Inconel-coated membrane walls in Portugal at MARTIN Caldeiras. Installation period: 12 days.

• Induced draught fan: Installation of the new induced draught fan for increasing the combustion line's capacity by 20 %. Installation of a newly erected steel structure at an elevation of +28.00 m. Installation period: 12 days.

The simultaneous installation periods were challenging but also facilitated the utilization of synergies within the MARTIN teams. Our erectors' great commitment ensured that all projects were completed on schedule and without any objections.
We would also like to thank the entire GEVAG team and CSD Nutec's project team for supporting us during this comprehensive annual overhaul.
